Happy New Year!
I went to Portugal last month. It's all too rare that I travel without a cello in tow. What a treat. You really ought to try it some time! The country is dotted with medieval towns, 900 year old castles, 2000 year old Roman ruins and trimmed with stunning coast lines. The Portuguese are friendly and most spoke english which is fortunate because their language is challenging. Lots of what I heard sounded to me like "jujsh shemshujz çhmshujh"and often with a Russian accent. Also, while this may sound like a weak joke, the Portuguese eat a lot of pork and cheese.
I am kicking off the new year with a concert with Sheila Weidendorf, a fabulous pianist. We call ourselves CelloPiano. Yep, that's right. Truth in advertising baby! Our concert is at the amazing Whidbey Island Center for Arts (WICA) on Sunday January 5th at 2pm in Langley, WA
My string trio is performing at Ott & Hunter, a cozy wine tasting room, on January 18th starting at 7pm. I will be joined by two excellent violinists: Gloria Ferry-Brennan and Linda Vogt. While I may be outnumbered, a cello is bigger than 2 violins put together.
Last year I continued work with my local string trio and cello/drums duo as well as a reunion with Trio Quartetto in Portland, plus a few new duo shows- including my CelloPiano duo which is performing this Sunday. I set a new personal record for the most silent film shows in one year, due in large part to a tour in the fall took me all over MT, ID, WA and OR. I released a new CD, the first with Trio Quartetto which was also my first live album. I had a handful of tunes licensed for one thing or another including a commercial for fancy handbags. I scored two feature length films, a documentary and a rom-com (which is neither romantic or particularly funny). Both films earned some notable mention for the soundtrack. I did a variety of session work for an assortment of musicians who live in far away places. I continue to write music, record, arrange and make the occasional video. I also went to Portugal.
Here's a little ditty for cello and melodica. Since music sounds better when accompanied by an image, this now resides on YouTube. Come and look at how it sounds!

I scored Clocking The T a few years ago. It was the first feature film that I did all the music for. It recently went live on Amazon Prime: Clocking The T
